How you can have successful marketing this year.

Updated: Jan 25, 2020

Want to have successful marketing this year?

How many times do you look at other businesses and wonder how their marketing is so successful?

I think we probably all do this.

It is fantastic to learn from others, but it is so easy for this to be a distraction.

Because what other businesses are doing is great for them, but if you start trying to replicate what’s working for someone else, you will get disappointed.

The ‘copy this’ marketing is a selling technique that doesn’t work as its not you, and your business can fail.

If you listen to your customers and concentrate on the importance of setting and focusing on your own marketing goals, you can spend your valuable time engaging with your target market to grow your business.

You must take the time to put together a solid marketing plan for your business because having a clear marketing plan will help your focus.

When you develop the right marketing plan for your business (not anyone else’s), you will grow and experience significant benefits.

A marketing plan provides clarity.

When you have clarity, you will find marketing your business so much easier.

Imagine knowing what you need to say because you know what your target market wants.

When you want to grow your business, it can be hard to get clear on this.

You have all these ideas in your head, but its tricky to know where you should focus.

With a solid marketing strategy and plan, you get actionable steps that you will need to take to attract your ideal clients.

By prioritising these steps, you can ensure you are focusing on the most critical tasks first.

Think about how much more productive you will be if you aren’t wasting your time on tasks that don’t add value to your business.

Planning gives you consistency.

If you want to achieve marketing success, you need to be consistent in everything that you do.

Once you communicate a consistent marketing message, your audience gets to understand how you can help them.

By creating a consistent brand, you can stand out online, and people will recognise you.

It will help you develop a consistent social media presence, so you stay in the forefront of your audience and be there at the time when they’re ready for purchase.

When you have a strong marketing plan in place, you can achieve this consistency.

You can keep to your plan and keep showing up every day for your audience (who needs you!).

You can build stronger awareness and engagement with these people, which is critical to successfully attracting new clients.

Planning achieves a better return on investment

As you start to grow your business, money can be scarce, so you should choose carefully.

You should think about how much you’re willing to spend to generate each lead and sale.

Not just this, you will also need to decide where to spend your marketing budget.

A mistake I see so often is people spreading their marketing budget out across too many platforms, but this dilutes their message and diminishes the likelihood of a good return.

However, with a marketing strategy and plan, you will identify the core platforms or marketing methods that you’re going to focus on.

By doing this planning, you will see a better return on investment, and this will assist with achieving your marketing success.

Is your timing right?

You might have certain times of the year when your services are in more demand than others, and specific events or activities can generate more of a rush for your business.

You can build activities in your marketing plan that take advantage of this. Also, if you are experiencing a busy time of year, you can plan for this so that you can scale back your marketing activities to support you.

If you know when you have either a busy or quiet time, it will lead to greater marketing success.

A plan reduces stress and overwhelm

If running your business is causing you some overwhelm and stress, then you may find putting a plan in place makes it so much easier.

It provides you with the clarity, structure, and step-by-step actions you will need to focus on. You are enabling so much of a difference to your wellbeing.

You can save time, so you can fit in “all the things” you need to and spend less time working in your business.

Grow faster

As I mentioned before, it is easy to get despondent and distracted by others and how well they are doing.

I don’t know about you, but there are lots of new marketing trends or shiny new systems or tools that come along, and it is easy to chase after these.

By having a marketing plan to stick to, you can focus on what you need to do and be committed to it; this will move you forward.

Because, while you focus on what someone else is doing, not only do you waste time comparing yourself, you also lose track of where you are going and the marketing success that you want to achieve.

Once you have a plan in place, you can track your performance against the goals you have set for yourself and have indicators to show you where you may need to adjust it.

Avoid expensive marketing mistakes with a solid plan

For me, a good marketing strategy and plan must include performance targets.

They don’t have to be scary and complicated, but a few key numbers can act as a guide so that you will know what excellent performance looks like.

By knowing what marketing performance, you want to achieve, you will be able to monitor and tweak your activities much sooner if you need to.

These adjustments can ensure that you avoid any costly mistakes that you can’t afford.

I hope this has been helpful. If you get easily distracted in your business, to the point where time seems to disappear, or maybe you are looking for more clarity, but you’re also struggling to untangle all the thoughts in your head.

What you need is someone to talk through the marketing you would like to achieve.

That’s where I can help.

My one-off Marketing Strategy Planning Session is a fantastic way of unlocking the strategies, structure, and systems you will need to build a solid marketing foundation for your business.
